A New Framework for the Wound That Never Seemed to Heal

Most people who find their way to this work have already spent years trying to feel better.

They've shown up for their own healing, worked hard at it, and still feel like something at the very center of things hasn't moved.

If that sounds like you, I want to tell you something important.

You're not imagining it. You're not broken. You haven't failed at healing.

There's something real going on. It has a name. And until now, nobody's given it one.

Introducing Soul-Level Trauma™

Over fifty years of healing work and eighteen years of professional practice, I kept seeing the same thing. People were suffering from something that hadn't been properly identified. They'd done the work. They'd tried everything. And they were still stuck in a way that made no sense given how hard they'd tried.

If you believe that we're spirits having a physical experience, and that the soul is the core of who we are, then the health of the soul has to be part of how we understand what's going wrong. A lot of what causes problems in our lives comes from wounds that happened at the soul level. To help people with those wounds, I developed a way of describing what I was consistently seeing in the people who came to me.

I call it Soul-Level Trauma™.

Here's the simplest way I can describe it:

Soul-Level Trauma™ is a wound that lives deeper than the mind and deeper than the body. It sits in the soul itself. Because it lives at that depth, the approaches that work on the mind and the body can't reach it.

That's why people can spend years in therapy, develop real understanding of themselves, make genuine progress, and still feel like something hasn't shifted. The work they're doing is real. It's just reaching a layer that sits above where the actual wound is.

The wound has to be worked on where it actually lives.

What I Mean by the Soul

When I say soul, I mean the deepest part of who you are. The part that was there before life shaped you. The part that holds your energy, your sense of being yourself, your capacity for joy, for connection, for feeling genuinely present in your own life.

Think of the soul as the very center of you. Not your personality, which develops over time in response to what you go through. The original you, underneath all of that.

The soul is our true form. This human experience is temporary, designed to let us gain knowledge through our interactions with each other in a physical world. We arrive with no memory of who we were or what we experienced before this lifetime, because that memory would shape how we experience and learn from this one. We start fresh. How we process what happens to us determines the impact it has at the soul level, which then influences the mind and the body. All three are like three rivers running alongside each other, constantly intertwining, constantly shaping one another as we move through life. A wound to one affects the others.

When the soul is wounded, the effects travel upward through everything else. How you feel in your body. How you handle stress. How present you feel in your own life. How connected you feel to yourself and to the people around you.

This isn't a new idea. Healers across every culture on every continent have understood this for thousands of years. What's new is giving it a clear name and a practical way of working with it that people can actually use.

How Soul-Level Trauma™ Happens

It tends to develop in one of three ways, and often more than one at the same time.

The soul breaks apart under pressure. When someone goes through something so overwhelming that they can't fully absorb it in the moment, part of the soul can break away from the rest as a form of protection. Traditional healing cultures have called this soul loss for thousands of years. The fragmented part doesn't disappear. It gets stuck. And the person is left feeling incomplete in a way they often can't put into words.

Painful experiences leave a mark that doesn't fade on its own. Some experiences don't break the soul apart but they leave a deep imprint in the energy that surrounds and runs through the body. That imprint can quietly shape your emotions, your behavior, and even your physical health for years, sometimes decades, without you ever connecting it back to where it came from. It affects every relationship you have, with yourself and with every person, place, and thing you encounter in your lifetime.

The connection to your own core becomes damaged. Over time, especially when the first two things are happening, people can lose their connection to their own deepest self. They describe it as still functioning, still showing up, but the ability to feel genuinely alive and present is missing. That disconnection is Soul-Level Trauma at work.

Why This Has Been Missed Until Now

Modern medicine is extraordinary at what it does. Doctors and therapists help people every day with real and serious conditions. I have deep respect for that work.

But medicine was built around a model of the human being that goes as deep as the physical body and the thinking mind. The tools it uses, scans, blood tests, psychological questionnaires, are designed to look at those layers.

Soul-Level Trauma™ lives deeper than those tools can see.

So when someone carrying it goes through the medical system, they often come out the other side being told there's nothing wrong with them. Or that they need to keep working at it. Or that they're somehow not responding to treatment. The message, even when no one means it this way, is that the problem is with the person.

It's not. No one's been looking in the right place.

I've worked with people who spent ten, fifteen, twenty years doing everything right before they found their way to this work. Every single one of them was doing the best they could with the tools they'd been given. What they needed was a different kind of tool, one built to work at the level where the wound actually lives.

What Soul-Level Trauma™ Feels Like From the Inside

Because it sits so deep, Soul-Level Trauma™ tends to show up as a feeling rather than a thought. People usually recognize it more than they understand it. Here are the patterns I see most often.

Something just won't shift. You've done real work on yourself, and there's still something at the center of it all that hasn't moved. The work was real. The effort was genuine. It was just reaching a layer above where the actual wound is sitting.

Part of you feels like it went missing. Not grief exactly. More like a piece of yourself that used to be there is just gone, or was left behind somewhere along the way. Maybe you have a sense it's been missing your whole life. You've built your life around the absence of it. But you've always known something's missing.

Your body keeps trying to tell you something. Tiredness that rest doesn't fix. A heaviness with no clear medical cause. Physical symptoms that come and go without explanation. The energy of a soul-level wound can settle into the body and weaken it, showing up as things like chronic back pain or constant fatigue that keeps coming back with no clear source.

Everything looks fine. Nothing feels fine. Your life, on paper, is good. There's much to be grateful for. But the feeling of being genuinely alive and present in it, the sense that your life is actually yours and worth living fully, is thin. You're running at a fraction of what you know you could be.

You keep coming back to the same place. The same emotional loop. The same kind of relationship playing out differently with different people. The same wall every time you try to move forward. These patterns feel bigger than habits. They have a root that goes deeper than most approaches have been able to reach.

What Becomes Possible When This Gets Addressed

Soul-Level Trauma™ is workable. When we get to work at the level where the wound actually lives, three things tend to happen.

What was broken apart comes back together. The parts of the soul that split away during overwhelming experiences can be found and brought home. People describe this as feeling whole again for the first time in years. Sometimes for the first time they can remember. This process has been known across thousands of years and many different cultures as soul retrieval.

The old imprints stop running the show. When we clear the energetic residue that painful experiences leave behind, the past stops bleeding into the present. Patterns that felt locked in place begin to soften. Reactions that felt automatic start to shift as you're able to experience life through a different level of awareness.

The connection to yourself comes back. The aliveness, the sense of being genuinely present in your own life, the feeling of being yourself again. Not as an idea. As something you can actually feel.

These aren't promises. Every person's healing is their own and it moves at its own pace. You and I could go through the same experience and your perceptions and interpretations would give it a different meaning than mine would. That would mean each of us needing a different kind of help and a different amount of time to work through it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is Soul-Level Trauma™?

It's a way of describing a kind of wound that exists at the deepest layer of a person, in the soul itself, below the level that the mind and body operate at. I developed it from fifty years of healing work and eighteen years of professional practice, after seeing the same pattern in people who kept not getting better through conventional care. Because it lives at that depth, approaches that work on the mind and body can't fully reach it.

Has this been recognized by medical professionals?

Mark's work has been recognized and referred by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital, and Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. These institutions referred patients to Mark because they saw consistent results in people whose healing had stalled. One medical clinic in Mark's hometown regularly refers patients to him when standard treatment has taken them as far as it can.

How is Soul-Level Trauma™ treated?

Through energy healing, shamanic healing, and soul retrieval. These practices work directly at the depth where the wound lives. Other posts in this series walk through each one in plain terms, including what happens during a session and what people commonly experience afterward.

Can this work alongside regular medical care or therapy?

Yes, and for most people it does. A lot of Mark's clients keep seeing their doctors or therapists and add this work alongside it. It's not one or the other. The work reaches a different layer, so there's no conflict.

Do I have to have any particular beliefs for this to work?

No. Many people who come to Mark arrive skeptical. You don't need to change what you believe. You just need to be open to trying something that works at a different level from what you've tried before. The results tend to speak for themselves.
